EMDR Therapy for Adults & Children in Cedar City and Kanab
Healing from difficult experiences, one step at a time. EMDR therapy can help the brain process distressing experiences so they no longer feel as overwhelming or controlling.
How We Help
Sometimes our minds and bodies continue to react to something long after the event has ended. You may know that you are safe today, yet still feel anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or on edge. A child may struggle to explain what is wrong but show it through nightmares, big emotions, avoidance, or changes in behavior.
Whether you are an adult carrying the effects of trauma or a parent seeking support for your child, EMDR offers a structured, compassionate approach to healing.

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a structured psychotherapy approach originally developed to help people recover from trauma and post-traumatic stress, and is now used by trained clinicians with people experiencing a range of concerns related to distressing or overwhelming experiences. During EMDR, a therapist helps you focus briefly on aspects of a difficult memory while using bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, alternating sounds, or gentle taps. The goal is not to erase a memory or pretend something did not happen. Instead, EMDR aims to help you process the experience so you can remember it without the same level of emotional or physical distress.

Why Choose EMDR at A Mindful Life Counseling
Whether you are working through your own history or seeking support for your child, our therapists take an individualized, pace-sensitive approach to EMDR.
01
For Adults
Whether from a single traumatic event or years of repeated difficult experiences, EMDR can help you stop carrying the past into the present.
02
For Children & Teens
EMDR can be adapted to a child’s developmental level using age-appropriate activities, movement, or play, always beginning with safety, trust, and preparation.
03
You Set the Pace
You do not have to tell every detail of what happened. EMDR can involve less detailed discussion of a difficult experience than some traditional talk therapies.
Each of our therapists has their own training and specializations. Not all therapists are trained in the same treatment modalities. Please refer to each individual therapist’s page for information on what they specialize in, or call or email us if you have questions about which therapist will be right for you and your individual needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a structured psychotherapy approach originally developed to help people recover from trauma and post-traumatic stress, and is now used with people experiencing a range of concerns related to distressing or overwhelming experiences.
Will I have to talk about everything that happened?
No. You will have opportunities to share your story, but EMDR does not require you to describe every detail of a traumatic experience. Your therapist will work collaboratively with you at a pace that feels manageable.
What does an EMDR session look like?
EMDR is commonly described as an eight-phase therapy process, beginning with understanding your history and goals, followed by building coping resources, then memory reprocessing, and ongoing evaluation of your progress.
What can EMDR help with?
EMDR is best known for treating trauma and PTSD, but it’s also used for anxiety and panic, grief and loss, low self-esteem and negative self-beliefs, relationship and attachment difficulties, and other distressing life experiences that continue to affect you, even when they don’t fit the traditional definition of trauma.

Healing Doesn’t Mean Forgetting
You may always remember what happened. The goal is to help the experience become a memory of something that happened, rather than something your mind and body continue to experience as though it is happening now. Ready to get started?
