“Hi! I’m Ayumi, a new Clinical Mental Health Counselor Intern. I am working on my degree through Rocky Mountain University. I grew up in Cedar City and have recently moved back after venturing out for a handful of years. I received a Bachelor’s degree in Family Life and Human Development at SUU and then graduated in 2023 with my Masters in Educational Psychology from the University of Utah. I am currently a school counselor but am working towards my goal of becoming a fully licensed therapist.
I enjoy working with individuals of all ages. My counseling style is warm, calm, engaging, and supportive. I am engaged in training to provide therapy modalities such as IFS and EMDR. I incorporate Sandtray Therapy, Expressive Arts, CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, and other modalities, in order to be able to meet my client where they are and provide them with the modality that will fit their needs best. My goal is to create a safe space where my clients can explore their feelings and build resilience.
I have always loved working with kids! I have a passion for helping children grow, heal, and express themselves. While working in my undergrad, I had a professor tell me that the most important thing a child could do is play. I believe that a child’s natural language is play. I look forward to using therapeutic approaches such as Sandtray and Expressive Arts to support emotional growth and healing.
Some things I enjoy doing are playing with my two dogs, going outside in the sunshine, sports, and eating good food! I have recently discovered the excitement of being a plant mom as well! I love to find the small joys in life and am excited to help my clients do the same.
