In this workshop, participants will learn about how to work with children and adolescents using Play Therapy. Participants will learn the building blocks of Play Therapy including history, principles, theory, and practice. Through classroom style learning, hands-on activities, and case examples, participants will learn how to incorporate play therapy from assessment to working phase into current practice. 8:30 to 4:30 each day. 12 CEUs available.

Learning Objectives: Day 1

Attendees will be able to name the seminal and historical Play Therapy theories.

  • Attendees will be able to name at least two key figures attributed to founding Play Therapy.
  • Attendees will be able to describe and discuss the Therapeutic Powers of Play in practice.
  • Attendees will be able to describe the rationale of Play Therapy across the lifespan as an approach to determining when to use Play Therapy with clients.
  • Attendees will be able to describe, discuss, and experience the assessment process in Play Therapy.
  • Attendees will be able to describe and discuss the rationale for Directive vs. Non-Directive Play Therapy use.
  • Attendees will be able to describe and discuss which clients are appropriate for Play Therapy.
  • Attendees will participate in at least 2 Play Therapy activities for experiencing the therapeutic power of play.

Learning Objectives, Day 2: Creating and Practicing

  • Attendees will participate in creating at least 2 activities for assessment with Play Therapy.
  • Attendees will participate in dyadic creation and discussion of at least 4 Play Therapy interventions for working phase.
  • Attendees will be able to identify at least 5 activities they can take from the training and use in their Play Therapy work with clients.

  • Return to Group – Discussion – Q & A Time

Additional information:
Training begins promptly at 8:30 AM. Light snacks and drinks are available during the day.
Lunch is on your own. Gas stations, restaurants and lodging are located very close to the training location on 200 North.
