A World in a Tray – Beginning Sandtray Therapy

This two-day workshop will provide attendees with a basic, usable understanding of Sandtray Therapy both as a practice within Play Therapy for all ages, and as an adjunct to other therapies with individuals and families of all ages.
Attendees will learn origins and theory, skills and techniques, review case examples, and have a full immersion experience into the practice itself.
Presenter: Tina Warhurst, MSW, LCSW, RPT-S, is an experienced expressive therapies practitioner for over 10 years, with 5 years of supervision and consultation under master practitioners of expressive therapies. Tina is a past President of the Utah Association for Play Therapy, and owns A Mindful Life Counseling Services in Cedar City, UT.

Learning Objectives
- Attendees will be able to name the seminal and historical play therapy theory associated with Sandtray therapy and its cross-theoretical use.
- Attendees will be able to name the two key figures attributed with founding Sandtray Therapy.
- Attendees will be able to describe and discuss how Sandtray Therapy incorporates the Therapeutic Powers of Play in practice.
- Attendees will be able to describe the differences between Sand Play Therapy and Sandtray Therapy.
- Attendees will be able to describe and discuss the rationale for when Sandtray Therapy is appropriate for use in clinical practice.
- Attendees will be able to describe and discuss which clients are appropriate for Sandtray Therapy.
- Attendees will be able to observe and discuss a demonstration of Sandtray practice.
- Attendees will be able to identify the standard sand tray dimensions, style, and materials.
- Attendees will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the use and types of sand in Sandtray practice.
- Attendees will be able to describe and discuss the tools and miniatures used in Sandtray practice, including categories and sizes.
- Attendees will be able to describe the six steps of the Sandtray Therapy session process.
- Attendees will be able to demonstrate, in dyadic practice, a full Sandtray Therapy session.
- Attendees will participate in at least three Sandtray practice sessions.
